What you can build

Real widgets, not mockups of a single layout. Each one is a screen you can stand up from Mixpanel.

  • Today's top events by volume, with percent change from yesterday.
  • Daily counts for named events over a window you pick (up to 90 days).
  • One event broken out by a property (segmentation).
  • A saved funnel's step counts and conversion.
  • Cohort retention: first-seen count and returning counts per period.
  • A celebration when an event crosses a count you care about.

What you can pull from Mixpanel

Dance Party reads your Mixpanel data through Mixpanel's Query API, read-only. Mixpanel allows 60 queries an hour per project, so each widget is one read. Anything below can go on a screen. You never write a query.

  • Top events
Today's events with amount and percent_change (GET /events/top).
  • Event counts
Daily, weekly, or monthly counts for named events (GET /events).
  • Segmentation
One event broken out by a property over a date window (GET /segmentation).
  • Event names
Most common event names over the last 31 days from GET /events/names.

Funnels & retention

API docs ↗
  • Saved funnels
Funnel id and name from GET /funnels/list, then step counts from GET /funnels.
  • Retention
Cohort first-seen and returning counts (GET /retention).

Properties

API docs ↗
  • Event properties
Property names on one event from GET /events/properties, used to pick a segmentation key.

Assign the dashboard to a screen. It goes live on the display.

Read-only, always. You enter a Mixpanel service account (HTTP Basic) with the Consumer role on one project. Dance Party stores the secret encrypted and only reads the Query API. It never calls /track, /engage, or /import. Mixpanel allows 60 queries an hour per project. Keep Mixpanel widgets on the default refresh. Project tokens cannot read.

Frequently asked questions

Can I show a Mixpanel dashboard on a TV?

Yes. Connect Mixpanel, describe the dashboard, and your AI builds it. It runs on an Apple TV, a native tvOS app, on any office display. Always on, and it refreshes on its own.

Is the Mixpanel connection read-only?

Yes. You enter a service account with the Consumer role. Dance Party stores the secret encrypted and only reads the Query API (events, segmentation, saved funnels, retention). It never tracks an event or changes a user profile.

Why only one Mixpanel widget per board?

Mixpanel allows 60 Query API calls an hour per project, shared with everything else you run. Each widget is one read. Prefer one segmentation over several event-count tiles, and keep the default refresh.

Where do I get the credentials?

In Mixpanel, open Organization settings, Service Accounts, and add a service account with Consumer on this project. Copy the secret when Mixpanel shows it. It is not shown again. The Project ID is under Project settings, Overview. Pick the residency the project was created with (US, EU, or India).

Do I need to build the dashboard myself?

No. You connect Mixpanel, describe what you want, and your AI builds the dashboard and deploys it to a screen.
