Tailscale dashboards on Apple TV and every office display

Your Tailscale tailnet, live on every office display. Connect Tailscale, describe the dashboard you want, and your AI builds it. Devices online, machines waiting for approval, updates available, keys expiring soon, and who is connected. It runs on an Apple TV, a native tvOS app. Always on.

What you can build

Real widgets, not mockups of a single layout. Each one is a screen you can stand up from Tailscale.

  • Devices online and offline, with a count of machines waiting for approval.
  • Which devices have a client update available.
  • Keys expiring in the next 14 days, with hostname and days left.
  • Devices by operating system, with how many of each are online.
  • Users connected right now, by role and status.
  • One tailnet health board that mixes devices, keys, and users.

What you can pull from Tailscale

Dance Party reads your tailnet through Tailscale's own API, read-only, using an OAuth client scoped to two read permissions. Anything below can go on a screen. You never write a query.

  • Device summary
Totals for online, offline, pending approval, updates available, keys expiring soon, and external devices.
  • Device list
Hostname, name, OS, client version, online state, last seen, approval, update status, key expiry, and tags.
  • OS breakdown
A count per operating system, plus how many of each are online.
  • Expiring keys
Devices whose key expires within a window you pick, up to 90 days, sorted soonest first.
  • Users summary
Total users, how many are connected right now, a count by role and by status, and devices per user.
  • User list
Display name, role, status, device count, last seen, and whether each user is connected.

How to connect Tailscale

API key connection. No code, no drag-and-drop.

Click Connect on Tailscale. Paste the client ID and client secret of an OAuth client with read-only Devices and Users scopes. Leave Tailnet blank unless the client belongs to a different tailnet. Dance Party stores the secret encrypted, reads your device list once to prove it works, and connects.

Assign the dashboard to a screen. It goes live on the display.

Read-only, always. You create the OAuth client in Tailscale with only two read scopes: Devices Core and Users. Dance Party stores the secret encrypted and only reads your device list and user list to render dashboards. It never authorizes a device, removes one, or changes anything in your tailnet. Device addresses, machine keys, node keys, and login emails never reach a screen. Revoke the client in Tailscale at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I show a Tailscale dashboard on a TV?

Yes. Connect Tailscale, describe the dashboard, and your AI builds it. It runs on an Apple TV, a native tvOS app, on any office display. Always on, and it refreshes on its own.

Is the Tailscale connection read-only?

Yes. You paste the ID and secret of an OAuth client with only the Devices Core read and Users read scopes. Dance Party stores the secret encrypted and only reads your device list and user list. It never authorizes a device, removes one, or changes ACLs, DNS, or routes, and you can revoke the client in Tailscale at any time.

Does the Tailscale connection expire?

No. A Tailscale OAuth client never expires, unlike an API access token, which lasts at most 90 days. Dance Party uses the client to mint short-lived access tokens on its own, so the display keeps working.

Does it put IP addresses or user emails on the screen?

No. Device addresses, machine keys, node keys, the owning login, user emails, and profile pictures are stripped before anything reaches a screen. A dashboard shows hostnames, display names, roles, and counts.

What Tailscale dashboards can I build?

Devices online and offline, machines waiting for approval, client updates available, keys expiring in the next 14 days, devices by operating system, and users connected by role. You describe it in plain English and your AI builds it.
